Root Canal Therapy
Root canal therapy is used when the nerve of a tooth is infected. Successful root canal therapy allows you to save a tooth that would otherwise need to be extracted.
Within each tooth there is a small bundle of nerves and vessels that supply nutrients and sensation to the tooth. These nerves and vessels are collectively known as the pulp. The pulp can become infected from a deep cavity, fracture, or traumatic injury to the tooth.
Root canal treatment is the process in which the infected pulp is removed. The pulp chamber and canals are then cleaned and sealed. A traditional filling, inlay/onlay, or crown is then needed to restore the tooth. The type of restoration required will depend on the extent of the damage to the tooth as well as how much chewing force it has to withstand. We will discuss all of your options with you and the benefits of each.
